New weapon in fight against Alzheimer's

Researchers say studies show that a naturally occurring brain protein appears to slow down or stop Alzheimer's.

The brain normally produces something called BDNF, which supports memory. Scientists injected BDNF into animals that were aged or altered to have Alzheimer's-like symptoms.

They say the animals began producing more BDNF on their own and had improved memory and cognitive skills.
