Supervisors may impose hiring freeze

LOS ANGELES L.A. County CEO William Fujioka is expected to recommend a hiring freeze for all county departments and stop any nonessential purchases.

The hiring freeze would exclude critical health and safety positions.

The county is bracing for a delay in state funding because of the ongoing budget crisis.

The last so-called "hard" hiring freeze in L.A. County happened during the economic slide following the September 11 attacks.
