2 survive plane crash near Big Bear

BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif. The incident occurred about 1:45 p.m. Friday and was first reported by the pilot of the Cessna 172, who told dispatchers that he had just crashed his plane into the San Bernardino Mountains.

The pilot and his passenger were lifted off the mountainside by search and rescue teams.

The crash occurred about two miles west of Big Bear. The pilot told dispatchers that he couldn't make it to the airport.

The plane crashed into some trees and snow.

The two people on board lit a signal fire, which was found by a San Bernardino County Sheriff's department helicopter.
