Feds in Sacramento resurrect Perata probe

SAN FRANCISCO /*Don Perata*/'s attorney, George L. O'Connell, says he was told by Sacramento prosecutors in early January that they were resurrecting the case. But, he says, they gave him no explanation for the move.

In a letter to U.S. House Judiciary members on Wednesday, O'Connell says the federal government's actions are unjust and he asked the committee to investigate.

A federal grand jury had been conducting a sprawling probe of the East Bay Democrat's business dealings, his family, political allies and campaign contributors who may have benefited from his political influence.
