Cool Kids helps build schools in Africa

IRVINE, Calif. "I like to get involved with people and that's why I'm doing this 'O Ambassadors' trip to Kenya so we can help people outside our own neighborhood," says Matt.

The group often needs to raise money to make it to the destinations where they are needed. And, instead of the usual walkathon, Matt sees opportunity to do more.

"We call it a walk and learn so we not only raise funds to get the kids to Africa. We also teach students here about what's going on in Kenya,' says Matt.

Matt is the senior class president, a cross country team member and much more. However, Matt still finds a way to include more and involve more people.

"Social life gets in the way, school gets in the way, lots of things get in the way," said Dr. Laura Roth, Principal. "The difference between Matt and other students is that he has really good follow through, which is a strong leadership characteristic."

If Matt has his way, this trip to Kenya is only the beginning.

"Go to other countries and help kids who need the help ... Help with global problems and become a global citizen," says Matt.

Matt is a student who can see far beyond his present time and place. He is our "/*Cool Kid*/."
