Woman killed in SWAT standoff

LA TUNA CANYON, Calif. Police responded to the 8400 block of La Tuna Canyon Road at about 7:30 p.m. after a woman called 911 threatening to kill herself.

According to LAPD, the female suspect exited the house around 11:30 a.m. armed with a handgun. She approached an armored vehicle and the officers fired a "less-than-lethal" round at her. The shots either missed her or didn't affect her.

She then moved toward the rear of the armored vehicle where officers were standing. She reportedly raised her arm with the gun and at least one officer shot her.

The woman was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Earlier in the day the woman was negotiating with police. She had requested to talk to her doctor and one was brought to the scene.

La Tuna Canyon Road was shut down from the 210 Freeway to Elban Road.
