IE agencies crack down on rail safety

It was a joint effort, with the /*California Rail Safety Team*/ and officers from the /*Riverside Police Department*/, the /*Riverside County Sheriff's Department*/ and other agencies conducting a sting operation at rail crossings throughout the Riverside area.

Motorcycle officers were watching for motorists and pedestrians who broke the law by failing to stop at crossing signals or tried to drive around rail crossing gates.

Authorities say 135 drivers were stopped and 75 of them were cited and fined.

Citations were also issued to 12 pedestrians.

The Rail Safety Team is made up of officers from the BNSF Railway Police and Union Pacific Police Departments.
