Robot contest takes over Pasadena

PASADENA, Calif. Teams from 12 local elementary, middle and high schools were asked to make their battery powered robots perform a series of tasks within two minutes.

The challenge was to get the robots to simulate planetary exploration.

The robots had to move rocks, place sensors in caves and volcanoes, and rescue a stranded "colleague."

The contest was held at JPL's Von Karman auditorium in Pasadena.
