Apple Valley street fight turns deadly

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. /*San Bernardino County Sheriff*/'s deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the 13100 block of Mohawk Road on Tuesday afternoon. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found Oscar Perez lying in a driveway with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel attempted to treat Perez, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies detained several people at the scene, including the man who had been cut.

From interviews with witnesses, homicide detectives determined that there had been a verbal altercation between people at two different residences, which escalated into a street fight involving several people. During the fight, detectives say Perez produced a box cutter and attacked a man; cutting him on the head and chest. That man obtained a gun and shot Perez. His name has not been released; he was detained and questioned but not arrested.

Investigators are still trying to determine if the shooting was in self-defense.
