UCR professor wins poetry award

RIVERSIDE, Calif. Herrera, the son of migrant farm workers, has written 24 books. In August 2008, /*New York Times Book Review*/ critic Stephen Burt compared Herrera's work to that of renowned Beat Generation poet Allen Ginsburg. "Half of the World in Light" was named one of the /*New York Times*/ "100 Notable books of 2008."

Herrera holds the Tomas Rivera Endowed Chair in the Department of Creative Writing at UCR.
