V.C. Co. residents decide beach's future

ORMOND BEACH, Calif. Local organizers are inviting residents of Ormond Beach, South Oxnard, and Port Hueneme to a community workshop this weekend.

/*Ormond Beach*/ and some adjoining wetlands are facing environmental damage from a nearby industrial area. They're next to a mountain of waste located at the Halaco Superfund site.

Local groups want to restore the area.

The California State Coastal Conservancy, the Ormond Beach Wetlands Public Outreach and Design Planning Team, as well as the Central Coast Alliance for Sustainable Economy (CAUSE), are working on the project.

This weekend's workshop will be held Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the South Oxnard Community Center.

The workshop will be in both Spanish and English.
