New trend in education: Less homework

School districts apparently are listening to concerned parents who have been raising questions about homework that can take two to four hours per night to complete.

Parents have seen their children become stressed and give up on sleep or playtime to complete assignments that seem like busy work at times.

The /*Los Angeles Times*/ is reporting that in Danville, homework has been banned on weekend and vacations.

In Palo Alto, officials eliminated homework over winter break, and officials in the city of Orange are reminding teachers about limits on homework and urging them not to assign it on the weekend.

Some schools have even done away with book reports. Parents say removing the obligation to write a report has their children reading for the pleasure of just reading.
