Man tries to kidnap 2 girls from library

BURBANK, Calif. Rainer Russel Rickford, 49, was arrested Saturday afternoon on suspicion of attempted kidnapping with the intent to commit a lewd act with a minor.

Burbank police say Rickford approached the girls in the children's section of the library at 110 N. Glenoaks Blvd. He allegedly told the girls he had a dog in his car and wanted them to go outside and pet it. Rickford also offered the girls snacks.

Police say the girls became frightened and reported the incident to a librarian after they noticed the suspect was continuously moving his hands inside his pants.

During an investigation, police discovered the suspect had a motor home parked near the library with the license plates removed and the keys in the ignition.

Rickford was arrested and booked at the Burbank City Jail, where he is being held on $500,000 bail.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Burbank police at (818) 238-3241.
