Possible furloughs for LAX employees

LOS ANGELES The city of L.A. is facing a $1 billion budget deficit next year. /*Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa*/ said he will consider all cost-cutting measures, including employee furloughs to help close the gap.

According to the /*Los Angeles Times*/, Paula Adams, personnel director for Los Angeles World Airports sent employees a memo on Tuesday warning them of the possible furloughs.

Adams said employees at the Port of Los Angeles, the Department of Water and Power and LAX could be included in the furlough program.

Villaraigosa planned to impose furloughs on city workers last year, but he was able to dump the plan after unions came forward with $18.25 million in unused health care money to be applied to the city budget.
