Commission approves Oxnard power plant

OXNARD, Calif. The /*Oxnard City Council*/ had voted down plans to build the 45-megawatt natural gas-fired plant at Mandalay Beach, but on Thursday, the /*California Coastal Commission*/ overturned that decision.

They argue the plant is needed to boost the power grid in the face of higher electrical demands.

Hundreds of people showed up to the meeting to oppose the plan over environmental concerns.
