The mural is the work of environmentalist artist /*Robert Wyland*/ and was dedicated on July 9, 1992.
At 116,000 square feet, the mural is the world's largest and is in the /*Guinness Book of Records*/.
The mural depicts migratory gray whales and other aquatic life that can be found in the waters off Long Beach.
The /*Wyland Foundation*/ has already begun restoring the mural to its original condition. Work will continue into next week.
