On May 1, the city will celebrate May as Older Americans Month. Seniors are invited to learn about walking and jogging as part of a fitness program. A fitness shoe expert will explain the importance of choosing the right footwear and participants will walk along the /*Ventura Promenade*/ to learn about the new /*Tortilla Flats*/ mural.
On May 22, the Senior Prom will give older adults a chance to dance their way into shape. The event with music, dancing and refreshments is free for anyone over 50.
Seniors who want to clear out the clutter and make a little money can join in the city's Senior Yard Sale on June 13. A $10 registration fee is required to reserve a table in the sale, plus help setting up sale items.
Registration for the city of Ventura's summer travel program opens May 4. It offers a number of destinations and venues for entertainment, including "Dirty Dancing" at the /*Pantages*/, "The Music Man" at Solvang PCPA, the Magic Castle, jazz at the /*Hollywood Bowl*/, /*Dodger Baseball*/, a Cachuma Lake Wildlife Cruise, and overnight trips to Laughlin, and Zion National Park.
Most of the activities are free, but reservations are required. To make reservations for these programs, contact the City of Ventura's senior center at (805) 648-2829.
