Investigators said John Chong, a volunteer who lives at the Kkottongnae Retreat Camp, was disarmed and injured in a fight after he allegedly tried to attack a second couple at the retreat last week.
The 69-year-old was transferred from a hospital to the jail ward at Riverside County Regional Medical Center on Monday.
Chong was booked on one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder.
Bail is set at $1 million.
