Decathlon champions given hero's welcome

MOORPARK, Calif. More than 100 people gathered at the Vons supermarket on Tierra Rejada Road to greet the victorious Moorpark High School team, which came in first place at the competition in Memphis, Tenn., over the weekend.

The nine-member team arrived home in style, making the trip from /*Bob Hope Airport*/ in Burbank to Moorpark in a black stretch limousine.

The team then mounted a flatbed truck that served as a makeshift stage in the store parking lot to acknowledge the cheers.

"It's great to have done something so many people appreciate," team member Michael Fantauzzo told the /*Ventura County Star*/ newspaper.

This was Moorpark High's second straight win at the Academic Decathlon, and fourth in the past ten years.

Teams are tested on their knowledge of a range of subjects, including art, music, language and literature, math, science, and economics.

So, what are the team members planning to do now? Get right back to the books.

"I've got six AP tests in the next two weeks, so no resting," said Zyed Ismailjee to the Ventura County Star.

"If anything, this experience has solidified my study habits."
