5 dead, dozens injured in tour bus crash

SOLEDAD, Calif. Highway 101 in Soledad was shut down in both directions for hours after the accident just south of Monterey at about 3:30 p.m.

The southbound lanes were still closed Wednesday morning for repairs.

There were 36 people on the bus, including an American driver, a Canadian tour guide and 34 passengers who are French citizens. They were on a tour that began in San Francisco.

The tour was scheduled to end at LAX, where the tourists would fly back to France.

The CHP says four of those injured were under the age of 18, including a 13-year-old girl who was airlifted to a Fresno hospital.
