Court rejects lawsuit against gunmakers

May 12, 2009 7:15:39 AM PDT
An appeals court rejected a lawsuit filed against two gunmakers on Monday over a 1999 shooting at a Jewish Center in Granada Hills. The decision was a legal blow to relatives of victims of the shooting.

The court ruled that a federal law shielding gunmakers from lawsuits over criminal use of their products was constitutional.

However, the panel found a third company, China North Industries Corp., was not protected by the law because it was not federally licensed, and that lawsuit will be allowed to continue.

White supremacist Bufford Furrow killed one person and wounded five others in the shooting. He pleaded guilty and is serving life in prison.
