Target to add fresh food sections

May 12, 2009 12:00:00 AM PDT
The Target department store chain is looking to boost business by adding fresh food grocery sections to some of its stores. Most Targets already sell some food, primarily pre-packaged items. Now, the retailer plans to add mini-groceries stocked with fresh food items to 100 new and remodeled stores this year.

The move comes in response to the economic downturn, with groceries being seen as relatively recession proof.

If the plan proves successful, Target says it could eventually add mini-groceries to most of its 1300 stores.
