109-year-old gets royal b-day greeting

May 13, 2009 12:00:00 AM PDT
A British woman turning 109-years-old received a birthday surprise when she complained about getting the same birthday card from Queen Elizabeth for each of the last several years.A special birthday messenger, Prince William, showed up at Catherine Masters's door to wish her well this year.

With just five minutes notice, Prince William walked into her nursing home to apologize.

"He just sat there and talked," Masters said pointing to a chair beside her.

"When he came into the room, she actually asked him if she could squeeze him to check if it was actually him," said a nursing home employee.

The Prince and Masters had tea and he gave her an invitation for a garden party at Buckingham Palace in July. For that, she says she'll need a new dress.

"He was lovely," said Masters.
