Teacher killed on daughter's birthday

LOS ANGELES Police said 28-year-old Robert Rodwell was pulling out of his driveway near 105th Street and Normandie when someone walked up to him and opened fire at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

"He just got shot two times," said Alonzo Rodwell, the victim's daughter.

Rodwell had just finished celebrating his daughter's seventh birthday.

Rodwell had been a student at George Washington Prep High School, and then returned to be a valued drum instructor.

His family calls the shooting a senseless killing.

"My son died in my arms ... my son died on the same street he was born," said the victim's mother Stacy Peavy.

Rodwell's students said he was a devoted father to his daughter and often brought her to school when he taught music.

Anyone with information about the murder is urged to call the L.A. Sheriff's Department at (323) 890-5500.
