Police said the shooting happened at Hayvenhurst underneath the 101 Freeway at about 3:15 a.m., but the victim was able to drive away.
Witnesses said the victim's car drove off the road and jumped the curb before coming to a stop at an Encino park on Ventura Park near Balboa.
When witnesses sent to check on the driver, they saw that he had been shot several times. He was alive and conscious and rushed to a local hospital.
The LAPD shut down the Hayvenhurst offramp on the 101 West for several hours as they searched for clues.
"The passenger window appears to have been blown out, probably by gunfire, and it would appear that he was shot through that window," said LAPD Det. Joel Price.
Police believe the shooter or shooters were in a car, but they're not sure, and they do not have a motive.
Detectives are hoping to talk to the victim after he recovers to get more information.
Anyone with information is urged to call the LAPD at (877) LAPD-24-7.
