Firefighters quench fire, save homes

FLORENCE, Calif. The fire broke out at about 11 p.m. at Compton Avenue and 81st Street.

Firefighters rushed to the scene to find a pallet yard fully engulfed in flames.

Crews were able to knock the fire down in about 26 minutes, saving nearby homes and businesses.

"I ran out of my house so fast. I never ran so fast in my life. I booked over here," said witness Gustavo Preciado.

Preciado said the fire was in the back part of his uncle's shop.

"My uncle's shop is OK, thanks to the fire department ... I appreciate it so much," he said.

People living nearby had to evacuate for a short time.

There are no reports of injuries, and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
