Murder suspect dies from gunshot wound

PASADENA, Calif. Darryl Stephens, a 24-year-old from Pasadena, was found outside his girlfriend's Upland apartment on May 17. He died the next day at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton.

An autopsy has not determined if the wound was self-inflicted.

San Bernardino County Sheriff's investigation had been looking for Stephens in the shooting of Darron Henderson on May 5. Investigators say Henderson was trying to stop a dispute between a mechanic and a group of men when Stephens shot him.

Last year, Stephens was allowed to pay football at Pasadena City College, although he was a registered sex offender who wore a GPS tracking ankle bracelet.

Stephens' coach Kenny Lawler has been on paid administrative leave from the college for allowing Stephens to pay despite his conviction.
