L.A. County confirms 1st swine flu death

LOS ANGELES The woman, whose name has not been released, died in late May. L.A. County Health Officer Dr. Jonathan Fielding described her as a middle-aged woman who had health problems.

Public health officials are keeping close tabs on swine flu cases. Through May 29, 102 people in L.A. County have been diagnosed with the strain of flu, officials said.

Throughout the state of California, there have been 576 confirmed cases of swine flu since the disease was identified.

Fielding said that most of the cases of the new flu in the United States have been mild to moderate, with symptoms similar to seasonal influenza.
