Officials chase bear cub through Upland

UPLAND, Calif. The cub was reported at the south of Baseline Road. Police officers chased the animal for several miles, even through a /*Wal-Mart*/ parking lot, before the bear ran into an apartment complex on Foothill Road.

One surprised resident was in the pool area when the bear jumped that fence.

"I was in the Jacuzzi just relaxing when I saw the bear hop over, took off, hop over the other side of the pool, and went up the tree," said resident Travis Byrd.

Officials from the /*California Department of Fish and Game*/ tried to tranquilize the bear while it was in the tree, but it came back down and ran a few more blocks to a nearby park.

Fish and Game officers were able to tranquilize the cub at the park and planned to release it on Mt. Baldy Thursday morning.
