Barricade ends with burned mobile home

CAMARILLO, Calif. The standoff began when four Ventura County sheriff's deputies went to the home to serve the court orders to 52-year-old David Boggs, a suspect in an elder abuse case involving his mother, who owned the home at /*Lamplighter Mobile Home Park*/.

The deputies heard a volley of gunshots and furniture being moved around inside shortly after they knocked on the door, said sheriff's /*Capt. Ross Bonfiglio*/. Several minutes later white smoke started coming out of the vents, and within two hours flames engulfed the house and the roof collapsed.

The man's body was found inside, but authorities did not immediately confirm how he died or whether he was Boggs.

"It's one of three things - a gunshot, the fire or drowning, because they poured tons of water on the fire" to put it out, Bonfiglio said.

Bonfiglio said Boggs' mother was not at the home. He would not provide any more detail about her suspected abuse.

Camarillo is about 50 miles west of Los Angeles.
