Perris animal sanctuary in foreclosure

June 17, 2009 12:00:00 AM PDT
A Riverside County animal sanctuary owner is trying to move dozens of rescued horses, goats, pigs and other critters now that a bank has foreclosed on her 12-acre property. The Ocwen Bank has ordered 63-year-old Renee Duncan to clear her Meadowbrook Animal Sanctuary and Haven in unincorporated Perris by 6 a.m. Monday.

Eviction attorneys and brokers with the bank have declined to comment.

Duncan, a former emergency room nurse in remission from cancer, has run the nonprofit ranch for 21 years.

She says she has refinanced three times to try to keep up with medical bills and animal care after being diagnosed with throat and tongue cancer in 2005.

A neighbor has offered to shelter the animals until Duncan finds a permanent home.
