Protesters face off over male prom queen

FAIRFAX DISTRICT, Calif. A demonstration organized by the Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church blasted the selection of 18-year-old Sergio Garcia as the school's queen in May.

Gay rights demonstrators countered their protest, showing their support for Garcia's selection.

In May, Garcia's announcement that he wanted to be prom queen surprised some students and parents at Fairfax High. But the students voted for him, and he was crowned.

School officials say the fact that he could seek the honor and win shows /*Fairfax High*/ students are open minded and accepting of different lifestyles.
