LAPD officers injured in Wilmington crash

WILMINGTON, Calif. The accident happened at about 11 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Avalon Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway.

Investigators say the officers from the Harbor division were responding to a call for back-up, with their lights and sirens on, when their patrol car hit two other vehicles.

Aside from the two officers, four civilians, including an infant, were injured in the crash. They were taken to a nearby hospital with undisclosed injuries. The civilians have since been treated and released.

The LAPD officers remain hospitalized. One officer is under observation, while the other underwent surgery for a cut to his head.
