Web site helps find care for loved ones

LOS ANGELES Three-year-old Aubrey is right at home with Fina Gomez, her nanny. The two have been together for almost two months now, and like a lot of people looking to connect with old friends, they met through the Internet at Care.com.

"Their whole process is really thorough, and I've gotten a lot of really good feedback and jobs from," Gomez said.

With a full-time job and three daughters to take care of, Jason Hayes, Aubrey's dad, needed help fast after his wife recently passed away.

"You go online, and it kind of leads you through the application process. They came back within a week with 40 people," Hayes said.

Care.com not only provides a large selection of applicants, they also conduct background checks on those looking for work, taking some of the worry out of the process for fathers like Hayes.

"They would list former employees, but also, then once we got into the interview process, we had people submitting resumes to us directly with their references," Hayes said.

Care.com can also help families that want to trade care. For example, if you need help on a Monday, but you can watch somebody else's kids on a Tuesday, the Web site can bring those families together.

But references are very important.

"When you're hiring someone, whether it's from a neighbor or it's a friend that's recommending someone, always do proper referencing and proper interviewing," said Sheila Mercelo from Care.com.

Care.com also offers senior care and pet care services.

If you need help watching someone or something, Care.com can probably help, and with summer closing in, the site could be a life saver.
