Business owner busted for making fake IDs

MACARTHUR PARK Police say that MacArthur Park is notorious for crimes like this and just Tuesday afternoon they arrested a longtime business owner for making and distributing dozens of fake identification cards, Social Security cards and "green cards."

The name of the business is called Joy Photo. It is located on the 2000 block of West 6th Street. Surveillance video taken by a neighboring business shows undercover police officers leading the business owner away Tuesday afternoon in handcuffs.

Police have yet to identify the business owner, a man in his 50s. Officers searched his shop and confiscated several computers and cameras and other items they believe he used to make fake IDs.

Neighboring business owners say that the owner had been operating his passport photo shop for more than 10 years. One man said he had no idea anything illegal was going on inside the store.

"We see when they going to the store, when they take him out, when they put the handcuff and taking him away, we had the video, you know? He is very, very nice person. I don't know why they arrest him," said Sabrina Vasquez.

Tuesday's arrest is part of an ongoing investigation in MacArthur Park, according to the LAPD. They say the Department of Homeland Security is also involved.

The arrested business owner was booked in the L.A. County jail.
