The animal was spotted in a tree near Mountain Avenue and 25th.
Game wardens shot at it with rubber balls to try to get it to come down.
That apparently spooked the creature, which then ran along the roof of a nearby building, then returned to the tree.
But before wardens had a chance to tranquilize it, the bear ran off and disappeared in some brush.
