L.A. jail may hand out more condoms

LOS ANGELES The Center for Health Justice started handing out condoms to inmates in a segregation unit for gay men in 2001. Since then, the group has passed out more than 43,000 condoms.

But because of the continued high rate of disease transfer, the Sheriff's Department wants to double the number of condoms going out.

Officials said about 65 new cases are detected each month
