Support grows for selling O.C. fairgrounds

COSTA MESA, Calif. The Orange County Fair Board approved a resolution Wednesday supporting the sale of the 190-acre property, possibly to a nonprofit or the county. The board specified it must remain a fairground and event center.

The governor has proposed selling state-owned properties including the /*Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum*/, San Quentin State Prison and three other Southern California fairgrounds to ease the budget shortfall.

Some fair board members say they may form their own nonprofit group to buy the property.

The /*Orange County Fair and Event Center*/ is valued at about $180 million.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
