Paddle Out for killed junior lifeguard

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. Allyssa Squirrell of Laguna Hills died Tuesday after being cut by the propeller of a lifeguard boat during a training routine. They had been practicing a speed drop, which is when the lifeguard drops off the boat to reach a swimmer in distress.

Friends and colleagues formed a circle in the water off Huntington Beach and tossed flowers into the ocean.

A memorial service for the 11-year-old is scheduled for Tuesday morning at Saddleback Church.

An autopsy performed Wednesday morning found that Allysa died of sharp force injury to her back and leg.
