The childhood sweethearts were married back in 1939 in Carthage, Mo., where they grew up. They moved to Barstow in 1952. They now have five children, 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Gene, 93, says he's still romantic and has always been that way. Clara, 87, seems to agree.
"He is a romantic ... always has been," Clara told the San Bernardino Sun.
"There is nobody else I'd rather be with," says Gene of Clara. "I had a lot of love for that girl."
