They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but a glass of orange juice may also do the trick. New research shows orange juice can help protect your heart.Researchers at the American Heart Association's cardiovascular conference say an antioxidant in orange juice called hesperidin improves blood vessel function and helps lower a person's risk of heart disease.

Men who drank a glass of orange juice a day had lower diastolic blood pressure.

Hesperidin is a plant-based compound that contains flavonoids. Scientists say flavonoids can improve the health of cells that line blood vessels.
