Ex-O.C. Sheriff Carona free on bail

SANTA ANA, Calif. A federal appellate court panel ruled on Monday that he does not pose a flight risk or danger if released.

Carona was acquitted on five other corruption counts in January.

He had been scheduled to begin his five-and-a-half year prison term on July 24.

Briefs on his appeal are due September 8.
