Massive dead fish cleanup at local lake

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. Officials say the fish are dying at Lake Elsinore, the largest freshwater lake in Southern California, because of a lack of oxygen in the water.

According to the lake and aquatic resources director, the situation has been caused by hot days and nights at the lake.

Scientists are now testing algae and oxygen levels.

The fish die-off began early Sunday.

Crews have been cleaning up thousands of shad, carp and crappie from the shoreline.
