Black tea may help control blood sugar

BEIJING, China Researchers say black tea contains a substance that mimics type 2 diabetes drugs precose and glyset.

Scientists say a compound found in black tea inhibits an enzyme that turns starch into glucose, similar to the effects of the two diabetes drugs.

They conclude that black tea helps people lower their blood sugar.

That study was done with black tea chemical extracts.

Chinese researchers say they want to do more study with black tea in a normal setting.
