Winchester brush fire fully contained

WINCHESTER, Calif. The fire broke out Thursday at about 3:30 p.m. along Ninth Avenue and Winchester Road.

Strong winds pushed the flames close to a number of homes in the area.

At one point, some 50 homes were evacuated, but the order was lifted by 8 p.m.

Officials said they had gained control of the blaze by 9 p.m. A shed and an outbuilding were destroyed by flames.
