ATM theft leads to rooftop standoff

NORTH HILLS, Calif. A man suspected of being involved in the theft of an ATM from a Walgreens in 15300 block of Nordhoff Street spent over an hour pacing back and forth on the roof of a building near Haskell and Roscoe.

The theft was reported at about 6:30 a.m.

He spent most of the time talking on a cell phone.

The standoff forced the closure of surrounding streets until the suspect finally surrendered at about 8:15 a.m.

Two other men were detained shortly before 9 a.m. at a bus that stopped near Roscoe and Sepulveda boulevards, which is about a quarter mile east of the building where the first man was arrested, but they were questioned and released. Another suspect was also questioned and released.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

Police are still looking for two other suspects.
