Leaf blower trade-in offer for clean air

The South Coast Air Quality Management District will host the first of 11 leaf blower exchanges on Thursday.

They are accepting old backpack leaf blowers in exchange for lower-emission units.

Thursday's event takes place at 8 a.m. in North Hollywood at Valley Plaza Park on Archwood Street.

The AQMD says the exchange of 1,500 old blowers will remove 21 tons of smog-forming pollution.
