Firefighters want service brownouts over

LOS ANGELES The city began the brownouts earlier this summer, with fire trucks and ambulances shut down on a rotating basis. That was because of a city budget shortfall of more than $500 million.

Firefighters say they have received more than 5,000 letters and cards in support of their efforts to end the brownouts.
