Man accused of molesting 12-year-old

RIVERSIDE, Calif. Sheriff's deputies say that for the past six months their suspect would drive from Orange County to Norco, where the 12-year old girl lived.

Then, detectives say 25-year old /*Julio Cortes*/ of Westminster would threaten her into having sex with him, and force her to sell marijuana for him.

Because he allegedly drove so far, so often, authorities are wondering where else in Southern California he might have gone to do the same thing.

"This is one individual that if he committed a crime across county lines from /*Orange County*/ into Riverside, we do feel this suspect has preyed upon other females," said Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. "We're asking parents if you recognize the suspect, to talk to your children."

Detectives were brought into the case last Thursday, when they responded to a residence in /*Norco*/, for an alleged sexual assault.

The next day the suspect and victim talked on the phone again, and once more the suspect drove out to Norco. This time-sheriff's deputies were waiting.

"And during that time since we had a great description of the car he was driving and the suspect, he was pulled over and subsequently taken into custody," said Sgt. Gutierrez.

Sheriff's deputies say it's possible that the suspect was also trying to force the 12-year old girl to have sex with other drug dealers.

"So we're having another investigation continuing parallel," said Sgt. Gutierrez. "To make sure whoever he was in contact with, we're going to be talking to them. And if they have any implication in this case, they will also be arrested and placed behind bars."
