3 attacks on women in Santa Clarita

VALENCIA, Calif. The descriptions of the suspects differ and authorities don't believe the incidents are related.

The first attack happened on Aug. 20 in the Castaic area on the 31500 block of Castaic Road. A man, caught on surveillance video from a store security camera, asked a woman for a ride while she was standing by her car outside a market.

The woman agreed to give him a ride if he bought her a bottle of alcohol. Authorities say the suspect bought the alcohol and then drove the 30-year-old woman to a secluded dirt road, where he raped her.

The second incident happened last Friday in Valencia. Detectives say a 44-year-old woman was walking to a bus stop near McBean Parkway and Valencia Boulevard at around 5:30 a.m. A man started following the woman and tried to talk to her.

When she attempted to distance herself from him, he grabbed her, knocked her down and tried to sexually assault. Authorities say the woman screamed and fought back, and the suspect fled.

On Sunday, a 16-year-old girl was reportedly running on a bike path near Valencia Boulevard and Citrus Street when a man came up behind her, groped her and then ran away.

"We don't believe we have a serial rapist out there," said Sgt. Darren Harris of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. "We don't believe any one of these incidents, any one of these three incidents are connected. There's certainly a difference between the incidents and the magnitude of how they were carried out."

Police say they have stepped up patrols in the area and they are actively looking for the suspects.

If you have any information about any of these attacks, you're asked to call the Sheriff's Department at (661) 255-1121.
